At heart, I am a kid. At play, I am an artist. At work, I'm giving a 100% of who I am to my art. At home, I am a Mom and a wife and an accountant and a nurse and a chauffeur and a cleaning lady and a landscaper and an interior decorator and a chef. I'm not perfect at it, but I work very hard at it everyday.
What you should know about me . . . . . I'm entirely laid back and fun. I like making people laugh. I love a challenge. My artistic eye and penchant for relating to people, I recognize and embrace as my gift. Being a photographer doesn't define who I am, but it certainly has shaped the person I've become. I'm a better person because of my photography and my clients; my muses!
Am I wise? . . . . . I've come so far and gained so much as a person by experiencing the good alongside the bad. I believe that in every obstacle or sticky situation in life, there is an opportunity for growth in some way. That a day not thinking about the future is a day neglected.
I am unique. I am close to my heart. Bottomline, this is me!
Well we were studio bound for this bridal session and it was a pretty good idea. Temps were egg frying worthy!
Took a little fuss to get my gorgeous blonde bride in her dress. Those lace ups can prove challenging at best and I warned her wedding day to allow for some extra time to lace up. Sounds like I’m talking about her getting ready for a game!
Whenever I have someone in studio for a bridal session, it’s my opportunity to create something different. I pull sparkly things out, try to use my props in a new scenario so it’s entirely new and fresh. I think we accomplished several new looks to add to our bridal session portfolio. Michelle was a bit nerved at first and quickly loosened up. She had hired me wanting something different than the usual bridal portraits. Given her carefree and trustworthy attitude, I knew her wedding two days later was going to be a blast.
My first Wilmington wedding and hopefully not my last. That downtown area has such a cool vibe. A nice blend of history with the new, city meets coastline chic. May 22nd, while it was a warm day, rounded out to be a perfectly mellow night.
Kim & Bill’s wedding began at a local church. I got there a bit earlier than the girls which for one was nice and a change of pace. It gave me a chance to get settled and to really stage some pretty detail shots. Known for it’s heavy and intricate lace & bead work, Kim’s Maggie Sottero gown beckoned some attention. It was wrought with detail!
Post wedding ceremony, we enjoyed a frolic with their bridal party in the downtown waterfront area as well as in an alley which I spotted on the way in.
The Coastline Convention Center set the stage for their reception and the fabulous Jeff Simpson, Owner/DJ of Simpsound I parlay as directly responsible for the mood of the evening. Boy can spin some tunes and throw a party.
The evening rounded out with a lively bubble exit surrounded by all of their guests.
A tremendous thanks to my fabulous friend and talented artist, Tomme Hilton of Tomme Hilton Gallery who second shot the wedding with me. She drove all the way up from Charleston to help me out. What a friend! It was such a treat, Tomme!
When I heard that Krupa & John were getting married on John’s parents’ horse farm in Lexington, Kentucky, I thought, WOW! I’m in for a treat. Fun added perk; they were doing both an Indian Ceremony(Hare Krishna) as well as a traditional Christian ceremony. I knew I was in for a color-FULL day.
Under the early afternoon Kentucky sun(felt like 100+), surrounded by rolling fields with tall grasses, their gorgeous mandap(ceremonial site similar to that of a gazebo) decorated to the nines with billowey drapery, flowers and fauna, and the traditional Indian ceremonial accoutrements lay in the gently sloping backyard of John’s parents’ home and horse farm. The very much colorful and ritualistic ceremony lasted about an hour and half. I had never experienced anything quite like it. It was so beautiful; the symbolism. I’ve since read up on the meaning of some of the rituals that John and Krupa partook in and the history is quite interesting. I have an appreciation for true, deep, and spiritual things and this shed new light on a wedding ceremony of this kind.
Some intimate pictures followed of the “1/2 Mr. & Mrs. Playforth”. They were only part of the way there! We had a little break, and in the air conditioned car, I might add and then got ready for their Christian ceremony. The mandap transformed nicely into an altar and vow exchange site. No sentiment lacked during this service as well, as the two sealed the deal and became ‘whole’; the new Mr. & Mrs. Playforth.
They honeymooned in Montreal and are now setting up home in Washington, DC. Dr. Krupa Playforth is beginning her residency in Georgetown while John practices law.
